Cover Letter + CV Services

There’s no need to spend hours staring at a blank page or rushing off a letter and crossing your fingers. I’m here to help.

Cover Letters

Tough to sell yourself?

Humans have put a man on the moon and mapped the genome but the majority of people struggle to write a cover letter.

Because we get all shy and modest when it comes to selling ourselves. We struggle to see how great we are or how we might impress others. Achieving the balance of showing how amazing you are but not bragging (or underselling yourself) can feel like the finest line on the planet.

I get you. And this is where I come in.

I help job seekers land interviews for their ideal jobs by writing a cover letter that walks that line like a circus performer. Cover letters that explain who you are, what you can offer the company and why your experience and attitude makes you the best person for the job.

But I go beyond that too. I research the company you’re applying to and really get to the bottom of what they’re looking for. Because companies don’t just want someone to do the job, they want someone who gets their ethos and really belongs there.

By working out what the company needs, I write cover letters that read as though you’re the candidate they’ve been looking for. Because, if that’s the job you really want, you probably are.

You just need help showing them why.

My services include:

  • Writing cover letters for jobseekers in all industries except academia
  • Writing cover letters from scratch or editing an existing letter
  • Creating and writing modern CVs that stand out
  • Tweaking and updating existing CVs
  • Researching the company or companies you’re applying to, their ethos and what they truly want

Why are cover letters important?

It’s a competitive world out there and sometimes it can feel as though nobody is even reading your applications. Some jobs receive hundreds of CVs for just a single role. No wonder it’s hard to put effort into a cover letter when you’re up against so much competition.

But whilst a cover letter can feel like a waste of time, it can actually be your golden ticket.

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who enjoys writing cover letters (except for me!) and so many applicants send in a very basic letter. They simply outline what they’ve done and what they are capable of.

Recruiters can spot a cover letter where little effort has been made a mile off. And whilst they might appreciate that it’s a hard thing to write, they’re going to think that if you can’t be bothered to send them a letter you’ve put 100% into, are you going to put 100% into the job?

By applying with the strongest possible cover letter, you’re already placing yourself above so many other applicants who haven’t put the effort in. By applying with a cover letter that shows that you’re familiar with the company and understand what they need, you’re placing yourself above most applicants.

Why are CVs important?

HR teams sifting through CVs have seen so many they all start blending into one.

Hirers become incredibly quick at spotting typos, grammatical errors and unexplained gaps in work histories. A CV is more than just a list of jobs you’ve had, it’s an opportunity to show exactly what experience makes you their ideal employee.

CVs aren’t just a one-time creation. Tweaking your CV for each role allows you to highlight the strengths and experience you’ve gained that’s relevant to the exact job you’re applying to. It might be as simple as deleting your hobby of baking and inserting your love of running, because you know the company is proud of their running club.

Making your CV concise and easy to read is one of the hardest things to do. Knowing what’s irrelevant and what’s not can be tricky. Making it eye-catching but not over-the-top is a fine line and industry dependent. There’s more to CV creation than you’d think!

Your CV is where the hiring team will go to find out what you’ve done before and experience is one of the most important considerations when selecting interview candidates. I work with clients to help them make the most of their experience and create and edit CVs so they speak directly to the recruiter.

How I work to create kick ass cover letters and CVs

I work with clients with huge amounts of job experience as well as those with little or fragmented job histories. There’s no need to feel overwhelmed because your job background lacks cohesion or depth – you have plenty of skills that recruiters are looking for.

In the first instance, when you book one of my services you can send me your current CV and/or cover letter and I’ll chat to you about the job/s you’re going for and why you’re interested in them. It’s not a problem if you’re not totally sure or don’t know what you’re looking for – I’m not a recruiter, I won’t tell!

The truth is, it’s hard to know if a job is right for you if you’ve never worked there before. But the important part is getting you to the interview so you can find out if it’s a job you want.

We’ll chat a little about your work history, the tasks you’ve done and the skills and experience you’ve gained. We’ll also chat about your hobbies and experiences outside of work to find out how these add to your skillset.

Once I have all the information I need, I can get started on your cover letter, CV or both!

When I’m done, you’ll see that your cover letter and CV show recruiters how you’re the person they need. Your relevant skills and experience will be addressed in a positive and enthusiastic light without any hint of big-headedness. Your personality will shine through – companies hire people, not robots! – and they’ll feel like you know and understand their business.

My cover letters and CVs have got many people attending interviews for jobs they’ve dreamed about. Then all you need to do is sit down and be your marvellous self.

Companies want to find a great candidate. All you need to do is show them it’s you.
